Medical tourism plans

The Minister for Health Doctor Neil Sharma believes Fiji has a huge promise in medical tourism in the near future through its public-private partnership on super specialized tertiary health care.

Dr. Sharma said one of his main objectives as the Health Minister was to raise the standard of medical care in Fiji to international standards.

"We want to provide more meaningful level of health care, our services need to be upgraded," he said.

The ministry aims to provide medical care with cardiac, advanced orthopedic and neurological surgeries and kidney transplants.

"We know how expensive it is for patients in Fiji to travel overseas to get these operations," said Dr. Sharma.

"There are plans in place to have qualified doctors who conduct these surgeries to come to Fiji and perform these operations here."

"That way our doctors and medical practitioners can grasp all that they can from them and who knows, in the future do it themselves."
