Ayurvedic Capital of Kerala, India

May 31st, 2011 1 comment

I was fortunate to visit and find  out that Trissur city, in Kerala (India), called God’s Own Country, is the Capital of Ayurveda in the truest sense. You will find dozens of Ayurvedic shops and also, ‘desi” medicinal shops in almost every roads and  lanes. Everywhere there is  that ancient, pleasant aroma of Nature..There are also a good many number of reputed Ayurvedic medicines manufactures and hospitals in Trissur, including the famed state owned  ”Oushadhi” managed by team of highly trained, experienced Ayurvedic doctors. Recently, Oushadhi’s Chief Medical Supdt. has formulated seven different “Amla”(wood apple) juice preparations under a beautiful heading- Seven Sisisters..More than half a dden Seven Sisters Juices  Shops are operating successfully in the city. Besides hospsitals and clinics, there are quite a few very good Ayurvedic resorts too in the Trissur city.

Since I have taken up promotion of products of a new start up company in Trissur city, I intent to stay back here for some more time. So, certainly I would like to bring outmore interesting information about the potential of this wonderful “Ayurvedic Capial” of Kerala and, perhaps, India in the near future..

Kindly wait!!

General Conception of the Intensive Multifactoirial Neurorehabilitation System

May 30th, 2011 No comments

General conception of the intensive multifactorial neurorehabilitation system

Neurologic Restoration arises from the evidence that the Nervous System has neuroplastic and regenerating properties determined by the high differentiation that does not allow neuroplastic cells to reproduce themselves. In compensation Nature chooses the alternative way to give the Nervous System the capacity for a superior repairment, which is much more complex than the rest of the tissues- a fact demonstrated by performed experimental evidences. It was inferred from the analyses by experts of reference, that from a mathematical point of view and accumulated practical experience for so many years in the patients’ neurological rehabilitation developed at CIREN – many long periods of time were thus needed to achieve the pretended level of exercising.

A preliminary conclusion was, that it was only possible to obtain similar results in less time if a form of treatment with a systematic frequency based on many hour – session training was applied with an optimum use of the time, by adequately applying exercising techniques, in reference to the patient’s sequels, characteristics of the patient’s general status and an efficient supervision and systematic evolution.

Expressed in other way, in order to perform such a high volume of physical activity, a great amount of time is needed that can only be achieved in a less period of time, when rehabilitation procedures with an intensive character are strictly controlled and performed.

Although it is a fact that natural recovery may also occur, attempts are made to improve and accelerate this process. Many health areas have developed treatments without a clear understanding on its functioning, and it is not really known whether the method is good at all or not. The rehabilitation of lesions of the Central Nervous System is not an exception, although some therapeutic techniques are based on clear theorical considerations [6]. In the theorical and practical accumulated experience applying the Intensive Multifactorial Neurorehabilitation System for 16 years, it was concluded that the physical therapist should not use one method in particular, but the one according to each patient’s specific characteristics, he/she must choose the most convenient method or most convenient combination of methods.

All the criteria previously mentioned, made possible to formulate the concept of Intensive Multifactorial Neurorehabilitation System, and defined as “a model aimed at rehabilitation”.This method must be used with a systemic approach, in an integral and systematized way combining intensively and adequately dosified form the methods, procedures and therapeutic techniques that make possible a better recovery. This is expected to be carried out in the least possible time and providing the patient with a better quality of life”[18].

The philosophy and scopes of the Intensive Multifactorial Neurorrehabilitation System – as an integral part of the Neurologic Restoration Program at the International Center of Neurologic Restoration (CIREN) – are conditioned by the directing philosophy of this institution, expressed as to its scopes and strategic objectives used in all its levels. On this bases and in correspondence with CIREN’S functions and structure, the activities for the interdisciplinary integration of processes of neurologic restoration leading to the establishment of programs for the intensive personalized care, are thus developed with special attention according to each patient’s needs.

CIREN’S researchers have demonstrated that with the application of neurorestorative methods, significant results can be obtained in the improvement of altered neurologic functions, by submitting the patient to an intensive regulated physical activity within the context of multifactorial treatment programs. IMNS proposal was conformed on the basis of compatibility of four essential factors: mechanisms of neuroplasticity, the cardinal principles of rehabilitation, general principles of sports training of the Cuban School and coordinated work within an interdisciplinary teamwork that together, give the intensive character necessary to each patient’s program.

Medical Tourism a Noble Profession

May 28th, 2011 No comments
Medical Tourism a boon for Patients

For many procedures, it’s often more expensive to receive treatment at home than it is to purchase a plane ticket, book a hotel, and pay for all medical expenses out of pocket in a foreign country.

Imagine a patient of acute mitral-valve prolapse that required surgery for which the Estimated fees at the nearest hospital approached $200,000, half of which needed to be paid in advance with little bit of research he decided to fly to another country and the procedure performed for less than $7,000…..

Another example of a retired person needed to undergo coronary bypass, costing almost $80,000 in the United States land up in India which cost him less than $7000….

A middle age lady in UK, wanted have better body to boost her confidence, required to go for Gastric bypass the cost came to 65,000 pounds she found easy to go to India and do it for 9000 pounds….

So on and on thousands and millions of stories and experiences of the people who have experienced medical tourism.  While the government, insurance companies, medical tourism facilitators, tour operators and hospitals are gaming to encash this opportunity to get their share, one must look this opportunity from the patient’s perspective rather than highlighting the growth of the industry.

Medical Tourism is offering the global medical tourist the opportunity to get the best quality of medical treatment at significantly lower costs. For many procedures, Medical tourists find that the cost of their treatment (including the return airfare, rejuvenation/recuperative holiday and accommodation) leaves them with a total bill substantially less than they would have spent just on having the procedure in their countries. Gone are the days when many agencies as well few media used to criticize medical tourism. Now patients are opting to go abroad for cheaper deals, like hip replacements, dentistry and infertility treatment.

Why spend $160,000 on heart valve replacement surgery in Boston when the same procedure costs as little as $8,000 in India or a $43,000 hip replacement in New York when it can be done in India for about $9,000? The obvious question is why pay exorbitant prices at home when you can travel abroad and receive the same treatment from a fully certified medical facility for a fraction of the price? A lot of people could be one research away from having to put a second mortgage on their homes to pay for an expensive treatment.

And the answer is Medical Tourism. As long as you are healthy enough to travel, you stand to benefit from medical tourism’s offerings. Patients frequently also take advantage of the opportunity to vacation and tour inexpensively in the foreign country while they are visiting for health care. If you fall any of the following category, you are a good prospect to take advantage.

Medical Tourism for Elective surgery.

Medical Tourism for Underinsured.

Medical Tourism for Uninsured.

Medical Tourism for Others(IVF, Surrogacy etc).

Look at this from a innocent patient’s perspective, Patients from developed countries can find comparable treatment abroad at a discount of as much as 80%. And it is becoming even more attractive as more industry players tie up with travel agents to provide a complete package.

The message… it’s time for medical tourism providers, hospitals and insurance agencies to start actively encouraging patients to consider Medical Tourism for their medical and surgical treatments which is costing exorbitantly in their home country. This way or the other the service provider is going to be benefitted however the basic encouragement has to be from patient’s view point.

In short Medical Tourism sector is here to stay for long. Negative reviews would keep on pushing few medical tourism aspirants away from the concept however Prime Consultancy and other healthcare providers should take a responsibility to reach out to maximum considering Medical Tourism as a noble profession.
